International Conductor Workshop

The Fort Wayne Philharmonic and the Conductors Guild again join together to host an
International Conductor Training Workshop designed to provide the widely acknowledged
principles and techniques of one of the most celebrated conducting
teachers of the Twentieth Century, Maestro Ilya Musin.
 
 

This intensive workshop is a continuation of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic's International
Conductor Workshop and will be led by Musin protégé and internationally renowned
conducting teacher, Ennio Nicotra.  Additional instruction and commentary will be
provided 
by Fort Wayne Philharmonic Music Director, Andrew Constantine.

                                             

Aspiring conductors from several countries and continents 
have participated in this workshop in past years, 
often returning to hone their skills in this intensive,
fast-paced, and supportive environment.

This year's workshop schedule includes several new opportunities to participants;

  • opportunity to win a coveted spot as guest conductor on the Philharmonic's 2019-20 Chamber Orchestra Series. Additionally, a travel honorarium and stipend will be awarded to the one winner.
  • extensive orchestra rehearsal sessions with the outstanding Fort Wayne Philharmonic,
  • rehearsal sessions with two pianos and orchestral score reductions,
  • individual instruction, lessons, and reviews, 
  • opportunity for two chosen participants to lead a masterclass on conducting at Purdue University Fort Wayne,
  • lunch session with founder and president Chuck Surack at Sweetwater, a leading retailer of musical instruments and audio equipment,
  • lunch session with Philharmonic Marketing Director Emily Shannon to learn about promotional  techniques for conductors in the music business,
  • lunch session with the Philharmonic Managing Director Jim Palermo about how to navigate the music business and fit within an orchestra organization,
  • hosted dinner and social time with Fort Wayne Philharmonic sponsors and other community leaders,
  • a concluding public performance with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic on Wednesday, February 27, 2019,

Accommodation:
Participants should look into Airbnb residences in Fort Wayne which can be quite reasonable.  There are also moderate local hotels available.  Participants are responsible for arranging and paying for their own accommodations.  The Philharmonic can supply detailed recommendations.  Please email [email protected] for more information.  

                                                            

Workshop Tuition:

  • Participating Conductor -  $900 (USD)
  • Auditor Conductor -        $450 (USD)

The updated deadline to apply for this workshop is Monday, January 7, 2019. 

Confirmed participants and auditors will be notified by the third week of January, 2019 and must secure their place in the workshop by paying a $500 non-refundable deposit by Thursday, January 31, 2019.  The remaining balance must be received in the Conductors Guild office by Saturday, February 9, 2019.
