Our program trains conductors in orchestral conducting and trains instrumentalists to meet the many demands of orchestral playing. We offer an unrivaled opportunity to learn a large and varied repertoire during the six-week program.
All participants must be 18 years of age by the program start date -- Sunday June 15, 2025 -- and must participate for the full 6-week period of the program.
Musicians are full-time active participants. Players rotate within their sections and remain in the orchestra. Conductors receive weekly rehearsal time on the podium and perform in concerts. Instrumentalists and conductors work and learn together.
With the obvious exception of pianists, all musicians (with the exception of percussionists) are expected to bring their own instruments.
Conductors are required to play in the orchestra and learn from both sides of the podium, while instrumentalists learn the music in exacting detail. We accept up to 18 conductors and 45 instrumentalists to comprise a full-orchestra.
The school’s rigorous weekly schedule -- equivalent to that of a full-time orchestra -- prepares musicians for a professional career. Each week’s schedule includes seven on-stage symphony rehearsals and a public symphony concert led by student conductors each Sunday evening. Chamber Music Concerts for smaller ensembles are scheduled on Wednesdays and offer additional performance opportunities each Wednesday night. Other performance opportunities are scheduled occasionally.

Tuition Cost is $3200 for Conductors and $1500 for Instrumentalists. In addition, there is a $500 housing fee in addition to a $200 housing deposit of which is returned to participants upon departure from the festival and if the residencies are left in good order. We offer generous scholarships for students in need.
Furthermore, we coordinate many paid opportunities in our neighboring communities in churches as well as in various venues for our participants.
